How ReStem 2 compares

Weighing ReStem 2 against another tool? These pages give you the short, honest version: what the other product does, where it's better, and where ReStem earns its price. Each one says plainly when the other tool is the right buy.

The short version

Drum tools come in two camps. Stem splitters pull "the drums" out of a song as one file, and drum replacers swap sounds on close-mic'd multitracks. ReStem 2 sits in the gap: it separates the drums themselves into seven stems, live or offline, then adds gating, shaping, Drumagog replacement, and MIDI behind every fader. No other product combines those pieces, though a few come close on individual ones.

Separation tools

vs SpectraLayers

Steinberg's spectral editor can unmix a kit into six layers. The closest thing to ReStem's separation, approached from a completely different direction.

vs Acon Remix:Drums

A $49 plugin that separates a drum track into six stems in real time, and then stops. We answer what the extra money buys.

vs Stem Splitters

Logic, Ableton, FL Studio, LALAL.AI, Moises, and RX all pull one drums stem out of a song. What a single stem can and can't do for drum work.

Replacement & trigger tools

vs Slate Trigger 2

The rock and metal standard for per-track replacement. Excellent on clean multitracks, and unable to start when the drums arrive as a mix.

vs Addictive Trigger

XLN's replacer detects hits through bleed better than most. Detection and separation are different answers to the same problem.

vs Drumagog

A family matter, since we make both. When the classic per-track replacer is still the right call, and when the problem has outgrown it.
