ReStem 2 version history: Current version: 2.0.7
v2.0.7 (Aug 7, 2026):
- Improved: MIDI output velocities now follow the performance's dynamics much more accurately on hi-hat, toms, ride and crash
- Improved: MIDI files exported from quieter recordings no longer come out with velocities that are too soft
- Fixed: importing a damaged or unusually encoded audio file now shows a clear message instead of failing
v2.0.6 (Aug 7, 2026):
- New: ReStem on Windows now has its own MIDI device that any DAW can record from, just like on the Mac (Windows 11 required)
- New: on Windows ReStem now utilizes the built-in GPU in your processor (if it has one) - renders finish faster now
- Fixed: long files or slower machines no longer fail near the end of processing during MIDI analysis
- Fixed: issue with sample rate conversion on the standalone version in Windows
- Fixed: the Windows Audio device type now offers all supported sample rates instead of only the Windows default rate
- Fixed: a crash in Fender Studio Pro on the Mac when the host records ReStem's MIDI output
v2.0.5 (Aug 5, 2026):
- Fixed: on Windows, version 2.0.4 failed at the very end of processing with error 107 - renders now complete normally
- Greatly reduced memory use during offline processing, and computers with 16 GB of RAM or less automatically use a memory-saving mode - fixes failed renders and crashes on low-memory machines
- The software update window is larger, easier to read, and its download button now takes you directly to the ReStem 2 updates page
v2.0.4 (Aug 5, 2026):
- Realtime (Good) mode performance improved on Windows
- Best mode now works on Windows computers with older or budget CPUs
- Better and Best modes render significantly faster on Windows when processing on the CPU
- Fixed long renders failing partway through with error 106
- Fixed audio timing misalignment in Pro Tools realtime mode on Windows
- Realtime mode now shows a notice when your computer is not fast enough to keep up
- Fixed trial installations losing their license keys (errors 218 and 602)
- A clear message now appears if your computer runs out of memory during processing
- Fixed the standalone app being closed by macOS when using audio input - it now properly asks for microphone permission
v2.0.3 (Aug 4, 2026):
- Fixed issue on Windows with realtime mode.
- Exported stems are named after your song again. Every export was named input_kick.wav, input_snare.wav and so on, so processing several songs into one folder overwrote each set. Exports now use the song's name, like My Song_kick.wav.
- Much faster end-of-render. The long pause at 99% after a separation finishes is gone — on longer songs this was taking up to a minute, and it now completes in a couple of seconds. Renders also start faster.
- Accurate time remaining. The progress bar's "time remaining" estimate now updates continuously and tracks the actual speed of the render, instead of latching onto an early guess that could be wildly wrong on long files.
- Fixed: Error 104 when processing. Clicking PROCESS while Good (Realtime) quality was selected — for example after the realtime engine wasn't available — failed instantly with Error 104. This is now fixed.
- Fixed: plugin window slowing down Pro Tools. With the ReStem window open, the entire Pro Tools interface (meters, playhead, and ReStem's own displays) could stutter during playback. The plugin's interface now uses a fraction of the processing power it did.
- Fixed: Core edition rendering after logging in from a DAW. Core customers who first activated from inside a DAW plugin (rather than the standalone app) ended up with every separation failing (Error 206/207). Both the cause and existing broken installs are fixed — no re-activation needed.
- Various stability issues solved.
v2.0.2 (Aug 4, 2026):
- Fixed stability issues.
- ARA processing fix for Nuendo, Cubase and Studio One: pressing PROCESS on an ARA extension could fail with an error instead of separating. ReStem now selects an offline quality automatically when it runs as an ARA extension, since live mode is only available on a regular insert in those DAWs.
